TOP: c/o Missguided PANTS: c/o Missguided SHOES: Gift from Kayla ♡♡♡ SCARF: ASOS

Double gingham? Don't mind if I do! This outfit has to be a new favorite - it reminds me of the 60s, the ladies in Edward Scissorhands, Grease - so many things I love! The bubblegum pink, cropped sweater is nothing less then perfect, and I'm completely smitten with the high waisted gingham pants. Missguided always blows me away with how adorable their stuff is!

DRESS: c/o Family Affairs PURSE: c/o Nila Anthony SHOES: F21

Family Affairs is one of those brands that immediately resonated with me the minute I first laid eyes on their stunning pieces. With nostalgic patterns and familiar silhouettes with a twist - something about their clothing reminds me a little of a modern Alice and Wonderland!

The Best Day dress that I'm wearing here is too lovely - it's covered in darling little fruit illustrations, and the empire waistline gives it a childlike quality I absolutely love! I can see myself going on many different summer adventures in this little dress!

I paired it with my Nila Anthony peach (!!!) purse! Nila Anthony are my absolute favorite brand for purses - they have the most adorable novelty bags and this peach one not only is so cute, but has a bunch of room!

BIKINI: c/o Pretty Attitude JELLY SHOES & BAG: c/o Sun Jellies POOL FLOAT: Amazon

Summer is finally here and I took an inaugural trip to the pool to celebrate! I ended up wearing two trusted favorites: Pretty Attitude has a darling array of bikinis, and this pink, retro inspired set is utterly adorable! I definitely feel more comfortable in high-waisted bottoms - who's with me?

Meanwhile, Sun Jellies continues to be absolutely PERFECT. Last October I styled their pink handbag, so I was over the moon to receive a pair of metallic pink jelly shoes (adorable and actually comfortable!) and one of their totes! This tote is positively darling - with a cute vintage pattern and sizable room, I've been taking it with me wherever I go on pool days, photoshoots, etc...!

HKM SS 2015

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

Before I even started Mermaidens, Hannah Metz was one of the first "bloggers" I admired - I would see her modeling, photography, and generally beautiful outfit snaps all over Livejournal communities, flickr, and WeHeartIt (what you might call the original Pinterest...)! For years now, Hannah has remained one of my favorite creators for her clear, flawlessly executed aesthetic and endlessly inspiring projects.

Now, Hannah has added "womenswear designer" to her long list of accomplishments (including photographer, stylist, lingerie designer, model...) with the release of the summer collection for her brand new project, HKM! I don't usually post lookbooks, but when I fall 100% in love, I can't help but share my excitement! Sheer fabrics, embroidery, eye and tear motifs - this collection is like somebody plucked pieces right out of my dreams...!

Lindy Bop Takeover

DRESS: c/o Lindy Bop SHOES: ModCloth SCARF: ModCloth PURSE: Gift from Marlena

Today I had the pleasure of taking over Lindy Bop's instagram account! Lindy Bop is an adorable shop filled with vintaged inspired pieces. I took over their account wearing their Tiffany Wiggle Dress and snapped photos throughout my day!

Window shopping downtown...

I stopped by the most darling diner for a strawberry milkshake - the diner was filled with 40s-80s memorabilia and had Rolling Stones and Elvis records decorating the walls! Also, the milkshake was amazing - is there any good retro diners where you live?

Are you a red or pink lipstick kinda gal?

Stopping to smell the flowers...

I accessorized my wiggle dress with red peep toe heels and a strawberry bow!

Visited my grammy and grampy's beautiful garden and found a friend! Molly is my grandma's adorable poodle... who evidently doesn't like to be held haha!

The First Mermaidens Baking Project

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

I'M WEARING: Mimili top (*), American Apparel Jeans NEL IS WEARING: Mimili dress (*), F21 cardigan

Haphazard mishaps in the kitchen have led me and my sister to fear attempting any serious baking. Seeing HP’s x360 Behind The Scenes video, where several artists collaborate on an interactive music video, was so inspiring - and reminded me that taking creative chances with others can lead to exciting, unexpected results! I highly recommend watching this innovative video if you are in need of inspiration!

Itching to work on a creative collaboration myself - I turned to my sister Nel, who I've wanted to appear on Mermaidens for ages but never been able to talk her into appearing on my blog until now! When thinking about what it would look like if we were to bend the rules like they did in the video, the first thing we thought of was taking on a baking project that would intimidate us! We grew up loving mermaids and sea-life as children, so doing an elaborate aquatic cake was the kind of thing we would have loved to do when we were young.

We baked two confetti cakes, stacked them, and frosted with a sea-foamy blue-green to represent the ocean. I then used my HP x360 laptop as a tablet to scour Pinterest for inspiration - we were immediately taken by pearlescent accents like seashells and candies. Putting the cake together, I got more and more excited and our ideas became more elaborate - like arranging strawberry Pocky to suggest coral reefs!

The cake turned out much better than we thought and much closer to our original vision than any other previous baking attempts! My sister and I really play off each other well, and we both loved the end result! It even tasted amazing…! <3 What was your biggest baking project?
