Autumn Goals List

Friday, November 1, 2019

As much as I love seeing the leaves turn dazzling shades of crimson and marigold - time passage always makes me a little sad as we inch closer and closer to the bitter cold of winter. To combat this, I decided to create a list of goals for autumn - and hopefully help take full advantage of the beautiful season!

Bake a Pumpkin Pie
Fall always makes me think of warm spices, pies, and cakes - I feel like it's the perfect season to bake more! And after taking to twitter to lament the intimidating particulars of pie crust and getting so many encouraging replies - I've been feeling more capable of tackling a long time goal of making a pumpkin pie! I definitely plan on making a pie crust from scratch - but to start, I think I’m goin to buy a pre-made crust, and then get fancy with the filling to compensate...

Take More Photos
Being a perfectionist through and through, I find myself seldom reaching for my camera unless I have a shot perfectly planned out. But because of this, I have discovered I'm not always having very much fun. If the shot doesn't go how I planned in my head, I consider it a personal failure. Where is the fun in that, and how can you learn if you don't experiment? The other day, I noticed the leaves were too gorgeous to ignore, and there are several neighborhood cats I've befriended that would be perfect models.

So, with my camera in tow, I took one of my daily walks and snapped photos the whole time. I was really happy with the end result, and it was a good reminder to slow down, drink in my environment, and just document the beautiful world around me. You never know what you'll learn, and what you'll find! It was a very nice exercise, reminded me a photo doesn't have to be "perfect" to be meaningful, and just look at how cute these kitties are! (though they wouldn't sit very still... heh)

The Usual: Pumpkin Patch, Apple Picking
I couldn't make a fall goal list without including some of the more traditional fare - could I? I can't remember the last time I went to a pumpkin patch or apple picking - I'm not quite sure I ever have! It seems like a really nice tradition to start, and truly the perfect way to usher in the season!

Start Knitting a Scarf
The only thing I actually know how to knit is scarves - but I’m thinking that it would be fun to try knitting a few for holiday gifts. I never got the hang of making striped scarves, so I'll focus on learning that technique - I'll keep you updated...

What's on your Fall To-Do List? Did I miss anything? <3

  4. I started knitting last winter! I knitted one scarf and started on another one, but never finished it. I'm still working on it... // I love baking, and there's one scone recipe I particularly love, but I've never baked a pie before--the crust is so intimidating! I've made crumbles instead though (apple crumble woohoo) // Ever since getting my iPhone XS in October 2018, I stopped using my camera altogether! I really need to get back in the habit of shooting! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
