Twenty-Twenty Vision

Welcome to 2020! Last year for NYE, I was on my couch, sick with the flu and absolutely miserable! To make up for last year, I threw together a makeshift "party" by setting up a photo backdrop, dressing up, and doing my makeup in the stereotypically "NYE" way with a glittery, smokey eye. I danced (badly), played charades, drank a little bubbly, and counted down - and then settled down in my Barbie PJs for watching old movies after midnight :')

A bit low-key definitely, but fun nonetheless - and certainly an upgrade from last year! I'm trying to remain hopeful for this year, but it can be difficult. Either way, I'm sending you so much love and thank you for occupying this world with me.

My Favorite Perfumes

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

With a simple spritz of the juice, perfume unlocks powerful memories, enhances atmosphere, clings to experiences, and unfurls different scent narratives. It’s one of my favorite parts of "getting ready" - the mist a finishing touch after picking out your outfit and makeup, helping to establish what kind of person you feel like or want to channel.

As somebody very driven by the idea of capturing a moment, learning that wearing a specific perfume can, in effect, bottle up meaningful moments, sensations - every time you smell it, was a revelation.

I am in no way an expert when it comes to the more technical side of fragrances, but I have such a great admiration and love of perfumes, and wanted to share some of my favorites! While writing this post, I did quite a bit of research on fragrances and the ones I like, and discovered I’m usually drawn towards fruity, warm, and sweet scents.

This experience has made me want to learn even more, so if you have any book or scent recommendations please let me know! I also took another shot at learning how to use watercolors, so I could attempt to accurately portray the translucent perfume bottles. While the paintings definitely aren’t perfect, I really like how they turned out!

Fashion in Film: Romeo + Juliet (1996)

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

I have always been transfixed by clothing in films, and over the years I’ve read everything I can about costume design. I was inspired to start a Twitter thread, but wanted to explore the topic without a word count. And this series, Fashion in Film, was born! Here we will take a deeper dive into notable costume design in film.

Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (1996) has frequently been touted as Shakespeare for the MTV Generation for its wholly unique way of telling the classic tale of star-cross'd lovers. Today we will be throwing the spotlight on R+J's costumes, which serve as eye candy with Hawaiian shirts, angel wings, and reoccurring motifs of flaming hearts, crosses, and other religious iconography (bringing the religion focused Elizabethan era into the 21st century).

These days, no doubt inspired by the changing seasons, I'm feeling like my style is going through a metamorphoses of it's own! As always, I'm drawn to highly romantic pieces - but this time, with a more dainty and elegant twist. Here's a look at what I've been loving, and what's on my wishlist!

Good Reads

Francoise Hardy

Is there anything better than a lit candle, a cup of coffee, and a new book to sink your teeth into? With the weather getting colder by the day, it's the perfect time to talk books! As an eager, precocious teenager, I burnt myself out reading everything I could get my hands on. Biographies, canonized literature, children's books - no matter the subject matter, I wanted to read it! It was only last year that I really started reading again, and what a joy it's been! Today, I wanted to discuss some of my favorite books I've read this year, and ones I'm planning on reading next!

The Kailey Doll

Presenting... The Kailey Doll! Only $34.99 😂 Halloween season is HERE and I was finally able to fulfill my dream of becoming an IRL doll! I followed my friend Aww Sam's Roller Disco Barbie tutorial for sizing the cardboard and wrapped pink paper around the cardboard.

Hot glue wasn’t keeping the box together, so I had to go in with not-as-cute packing tape haha! Finally, I cut out and painted a bunch of cute motifs of things I love/have featured in my work and glued it on :) What other Halloween looks should I try?
