Gil Elvgren and "pin-up" are two words inextricably linked - Elvgren is arguably the most famous pin-up artist. His girls decorate everything from fabric to calendars, and his inspiration can be felt in many of the modern day pin-up artists.
I absolutely adore GIL ELVGREN: THE COMPLETE PIN-UP - an absolutely gorgeous coffeetable book jam packed with stunning technicolor prints of Elvgren's girls. Published by TASCHEN (one of my favorite book companys), there is also an extensive biography (presented in three different languages!), in-depth descriptions, and was a steal at only $10!
Who is your favorite pin-up artist? If I had to choose, mine would be Alberto Vargas ^^
♥, Kailey
Isn't his work perfection? I drive myself crazy trying to decide which is my fav illustration. I buy his calendar every year, but the book looks great, I shall have a look for it. $10 is a ridiculous bargain. :)

Ive been wondering for awhile if this is book is worth the buy, some of the pics look small in size but I love all of his art as well.
ReplyDeleteI think Elvgren was more talented than Vargas, you can see that in a lot of the paintings, but Vargas had a nice watercolor touch to his pictures.
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to purchase this book! I studied a little part of his work for my Foundation Year and found this work to be amazing :D xx
