On My Bookshelf: Girl on Fire

Edie Sedgwick's status as an icon is undeniable - her influence in style and beauty is still very apparent. The artist who rose above her rich family's stifling grasp into Andy Warhol's infamous muse is intertwined with tragedy for me, her downward spiral that eventually lead to her death never far from my mind.

In EDIE: GIRL ON FIRE, the author collects quotes and stories into a truly beautiful and poignant portrait of the star. But what really impresses me about the book is the design - filled to the brim with full-page, high quality, glossy pictures of Edie, and sprinkled with dashes of color and incredible typography.

This book is an absolute must have for fans of Edie, fashion, Andy Warhol, and the 1960s in general!

    Oh this book looks lovely, I'm always interested with the bohemian 60s crowd of New York and this looks right up my street. I remember first learning about her from the film with Sienna Miller and though it wasn't amazingly reviewed I think it treats her sympathetically and emphasises her naivety. My favourite coffee books are probably ones by Taschen on art and fashion - can't beat them to be honest xxx

    Ooooo I must get this! I love Edie and I really enjoyed watching Factory Girl. My favourite coffe table book is Dita von Teese, one side is the art of teese and the other side is all about Fetish. STUNNING photos. Great post I may have to ask for this for christmas.

    Ive seen this one in a bookshop which sells vintage books as well as "not used" ones and this Edie book was for 7 pounds! i think I will go for it though i am not obsessed with her anymore, as you said, it is a wonderful coffee table book with amazing photograph and overall design.

    one of my favorite coffee table books is Moments: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs [Hardcover] it is quite a heavy book, not light reading, but there is some breath taking and dare i say, life changing photography contained within these covers.

    wow, this looks really interesting! I am fascinated by Edie, i love how she recreated herself!

    my favourite 'coffee table' book is probably this massive collection of Salvador Dali paintings that would probably break a coffee table. I also have a few books on erotic art or photography, and a few general art and photography books.

    It's really interesting how you take your photo's. The one's you have taken are so inspiring. Edie reminds me of Twiggy, I guess it must be her eye make-up. The 60's is one of my favourite decades, even though I didn't live through it. I would have loved to. If you haven't already read it, I would recommend you read Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway by Cherie Currie. It's such a good book, I ordered it off Amazon I think for £11. But that's because I'm such a big Runaways fan.
    It's nice to see your blog doing so well. Sorry I haven't commented in a while, I'm back now.

    Always good to find a new picture heavy book, I like anything 60's and also ones on vintage textiles. Currently browsing Sonia Delaunay : Colour in motion and getting inspired. Also I am amazed you did a post on Jem, I used to love it and had a Jem doll and everything.

    I was so obsessed with this book when I was fourteen! I was like a full-on Edie Sedgwick fangirl back then. I even tried to run around in t-shirt dresses and tights but nobody really understood who I was attempting to channel. -_-

    Did your copy come with an audio cd too? I've got mine on my computer and I still listen to it from time to time. Edie had such a nice voice!

    I can't say I've been very interested in Edie Sedgewick but it does look like pretty interesting.

    I do like a good coffee-table book; but I don't even have a coffee table, so I have no use for them, haha

    My favorite book for the coffee table is Alexander McQueen:Savage Beauty. It has great close ups of his work and shows a wide range of McQueen quotes.

    What a crazy trip that girls life was. Incredible how much Sienna Miller looks like her huh? Another good coffee table book is Vogue: An illustrated history. Its got INCREDIBLE photographs right from the start of the magazine to its current issues. Gorgeous gorgeous book.
