Favorite Films: Disney's Cinderella (1950)

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Concept artist Mary Blair and the whole Disney crew really outdid themselves with the animation for Cinderella, my personal favorite Disney film - the color scheme of soft blues and pinks paired with the detailed, beautifully rendered settings is a dreamland. The characters, from Cinderella herself to the mice and birds, are just the icing on the cake. To me, Cinderella is art in motion.

I've always thought the movie version of Cinderella was much more pretty than the generic stock images of Cinderella that populates the prepackaged pink toy aisles!

This Prince Charming has some sass~

  2. I was obsessed with Disney as a child, I always really liked the story of this one. I think the detail of the animation is amazing for it's time.

  3. This post is amazing! I think that the classic Disney flicks are truly art in motion. The modern ones are as well, but it's just not the same! Cinderella has some amazing artwork! I feel the same way about "101 Dalmatians"! That has to be my very favorite of the classic Disney flicks, but I love them all!

  4. Hahahaha Sassy Charming is hilarious; but I also believe that he's the sassiest of all Disney princes, probably. I'm obsessed with Disney, have dozens of DVDs at VHS and can't get enough. The art, details, music is always spectacular.

  9. As a fellow Disney enthusiast I love this post! Although my fave Disney film visually is 101 Dalmatians. I love how they made the town look like it just popped up from an illustration.

  10. I agree that it's beautiful and much more so than the cinderella toys that pack the aisles, but it being so long since I saw it, I hardly remember it under this light. Watching a few clips, the artistry jumped out at me and I discovered a new dimension to it that I didn't get when I was a child, so thank you! :)

  16. It is indeed a cute movie! I remember when I was little that one of my favourite things in disney movies were how decorated those introductory book pages were XD my favourite will forever be The Beauty & the Beast though, which I blame for several personality traits of mine XD
