Last month, I kind of fell in the rabbit hole of Youtube videos - watching the beautifully filmed and edited monthly favorites and lookbooks, it didn't take long for me to want to try it out for myself (even though I really am not a fan of my voice)! After weeks of trying to plot the perfect video, I filmed and edited my very own makeup tutorial. And what better subject then one of my ultimate beauty icons - Retro Barbie? I'm not 100% happy with the end result, but I'm still proud of myself for dipping my toe in such uncharted territory!
I got to show off some of my very favorite makeup products lately too - like Maybelline's new lip elixirs and Tarina Tarantino's hyperliner in kanzasi; which I bought from Emerging Thoughts, a favorite store who are giving Mermaidens readers 15% off all orders with the coupon code "kailey"!
Is making videos something you think I should keep trying to get better at? I'd love to hear your thoughts! ♡
ON MY FACE:
MAC's RiRi Woo (sold out; Ruby Who is nearly identical!)
Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner in Kanzashi
Benefit's POREfessional
Maybelline's Dream Fresh BB Cream
Maybelline's Lip Exilir in Signature Scarlet
Ahh you are amazing! This is so beyond beautifully made <3 Can't wait to see where you take this x
ReplyDeleteso cuteeee yes!

Love love love! I tried making a makeup tutorial a while back but I got super stumped when it came to editing! Yours turned out really good for your first go! Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!
ReplyDeletethe video is great, you should definitely make more if you feel like it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so adorable, Kailey! ♥ Please make more videos!
ReplyDeleteYou are so pretty, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI loved the video! I would really love to see more too as you come across as really sweet and natural :)
ReplyDeleteOmg Kailey, you are so flipping adorable!! I'm obsessed with this Barbie look. I wish I could do these faux bumper bangs, but I'm not sure if it works with real bangs? I really love the turquoise on your eyes! I still mess up my liquid eyeliner a lot (I keep q-tips ready for when I use it), but I think doing the outline first in pencil liner and then going over it with the liquid liner helps me a lot, personally. You look gorgeous, and I don't think ANYONE likes her own voice... I certainly don't like my own speaking voice... I do what you do when I talk casually, which is talking in what's called "glottal fry" -- it's that gravelly sound that happens every so often, which is a bad vocal habit (a lot of girls in our generation speak this way), so I make an effort to try not to talk that way. But you sound very natural, and that's the most important thing!! Loved this video and I hope you do more!!!

This is perfection!!
ReplyDeleteI am convinced that you are going to become a youtube superstar.
I LOVE THIS.
It's also the perfect length, and perfectly edited - I will never watch youtube tutorials that are any longer than 3 or 4 minutes, any that go over that length are far too gratuitous and the people who make them need to learn how to edit!! haha
And I'm so glad that you do your liquid eyeliner exactly like I do, haha. You think after years of doing the same cateye routine we'd be pros at it?? I feel like there's always been some trick that I'm missing hehe.
Please do heaps more of these! <3
Could i love you anymore?!! You my dear created such a fabulous video! perfectly edited, you sound beautiful, look beautiful and are simply adorable! that blue on the lids is just perfect!
ReplyDeletecannot wait for more mermaidens videos! this is the start of something magical xxxx
Love it, so well done. You look gorgeous just like your inspiration! <3
ReplyDeleteI love your beauty tutorial videos and the Barbie theme! I had even done a vintage Barbie makeup tutorial myself (http://bgbgyeah.blogspot.ca/2013/09/i-dont-care-i-love-it.html) . Keep doing video, it's rare to see them on fashion blogs :)
ReplyDeleteYou're so inspiring, on point, darling and exquisite. ♡♡

Great work, Kailey! It looks really well done and you did a wonderful job with your commentary! I don't think your voice is weird at all but I think most people don't like the sound of their own voice so I can understand that! You look beautiful of course! ;)
ReplyDeleteyou're so nice and charming.
ReplyDeletei just think, you should speak more clearly. your voice is pretty ordinary, nothing to be embarrassed of.
Wonderful tutorial! You're so darling :)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, you are just so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteso cute and gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteloved it, so cute and pretty!

I think for your first video it is very well done. I LOVE the look and Retro Barbie inspiration is great! The one thing I'd maybe change is the music choice or volume because it sometimes overpowered what you were saying which made it hard to hear you, but that is something that will come with practice, as I still struggle with this in my videos. Overall, great job! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteman, i wish i could pull off this look! anyway, i enjoyed watching your video. so well-made, so fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun video :) And such a brave girl you are to be recorded! I'm not quite there yet, but you inspire me!

ahh, i fell into the rabbit hole of youtube videos HARD at the start of the year which kicked off my now full-blown obsession with beauty & skincare. straight away i had the urge to start making my own videos but i haven't been brave enough to do it yet. i'm mostly concerned about people i know in real life finding them on the internet and that's held me back from doing them so far, but i'm really proud of you that you've gone ahead and done it, so congratulations!! i'd love to see more videos from you in the future! :)

Oh damn, isn't this the cutest makeup tutorial ever! I don't know why I never tried this, but now I sure am :3 Also, love the fake bangs, been doing that all summer, but now I've been doing a more 30's/40's look; can you please do something about that? And do you have any tips for the hairstyle you have on this video? :)
ReplyDeleteCan you please check my blog? :)
Goodness this was such a great tutorial and a great idea. You make the cutest 1959 Barbie! I always had a soft spot for her - I got a replica of her as a Christmas present when I was very young and absolutely loved her vintage look, even back then. The blue pencil you used looks incredible and with brilliant colour. I'd love to see more tutorials from you!
ReplyDeleteOMG this is incredible...You look just like her! <3
ReplyDeletefabulous job with the tutorial! and I'm also not crazy about my own voice but I think you have a really nice one! haha
