The Bride of Frankenstein

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

This Halloween, I turned to one of my favorite horror films for costume inspiration. Elsa Lanchester's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) is absolutely incredible - from her iconic look to her perfect performance, her take on the monster's bride is one of my favorite film characters.

This year, I attempted to recreate her costume using a thrifted wedding dress and fashioning white fabric into the mummy-like sleeves. Definitely not the best rendition of her look, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, especially considering I only had about a day to put it together! ^^

I must apologize for being so absent as of late, my internet has been wonky for the past week! What did you do for Halloween?

  1. This make-up is crazy! Halloween isn't as celebrated in Australia (I know, how appalling!) so I didn't dress up.
Although, I would've like to go as the Black Swan. That would've been amazing!

  3. Oooh you look great! I wish we celebrated Halloween more here, but as Maria said, it isn't really celebrated in Australia! How poopy. I would have dressed up as something really stupid, like a tree.

  4. That is so bloody good. Best Halloween outfit I've seen at least.

I actually didn't celebrate Halloween. It's more of an imported holiday here.

  17. You look so wonderful! I love the stitches, great detail! This is so funny because last night I was planning on posting a bunch of my Bride of Frankenstein art from the past (she has definitely been my biggest art muse for years) as well as a Bride treasury I put together on Etsy, but my computer conked out so I'll be posting it hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Great minds think alike it seems!

  18. OMG, you look fantastic, Kailey! You did such a great job with the costume, espesh considering how little time you did it in, but the make-up! You're really a phenom.

P.S. I miss you and your fabulous blog, I'm sorry I haven't been around much! Being in a temporary living situation has really wreaked havoc on my blogging/computer time. :(
