Favorite Films: Marie Antoinette (2006)

Friday, December 9, 2011

While I feel like the plot and character development of this movie leaves something to be desired, MARIE ANTOINETTE (2006) is definitely one of the prettiest movies I have ever seen. The pastel hues, floral patterns, costumes, and sets make this movie such a treat for the eyes! Meanwhile, who else is so excited about Kirsten Dunst's "come-back"?

  1. I haven't seen this movie yet {I know, I must be crazy!}, but I've always loved how divine the costumes were and how stunning Kirsten looked in the photos ♥

  2. I totally feel ya sister! I much prefer this film more in theory. But it's the best for aesthetics- pretty dresses and macaroons = my life mantra.
    Let them eat cake!

  3. I totally agree with you on this film - the visuals are beautiful but the plot/characters are so lacking that I couldn't finish watching it!

  10. Yes, it is SO PRETTY and Kirsten Dunst is SO PRETTY too (I sort of really love her teeth?) but I am always disappointed by the lack of character development and general lack of uhh.. "stuff to think about" in Sofia Coppola's films, but they are always so pretty and such a delight to look at, I sort of can't help myself loving it all regardless
(not that I need "things to think about" but I always feel there's sort of an emptiness, or a lacking of something in Coppola's films... and an abundance of visually stimulating things to make up for that lack)

I'm going to check out her latest movie, Somewhere, now maybe she'll make me change my mind with this one (this is what I always think :'D).

Also really not up to Dunst vs. Lars Von Trier (kind of really hate Von Trier since Antichrist and his stupid comments politically incorrect comments that are supposed to be "funny" tbh) but I think I'll end up watching it regardless becaaaausssse: http://tesslynch.tumblr.com/post/13628983317/watching-melancholia-is-like
& I think I might like torturing myself

Totally commenting in-eloquently with a migraine, I'm sorry, but whatever! a lack of eloquence is cool, too.

  20. I was sooo looking forward to seeing this when it was released because Lost In Translation has become one of my favourite films but I was really disappointed (apart from the sets/costumes which were amazing) I doesn't help that Kirsten Dunst really annoys me :(

However these stills are making me want to give it a second chance it!

  24. Totally know what you mean about the elements of this movie that leave a lot to be desired but it is such an aesthetic feast. I really like Kirsten Dunst in it. Love her in Virgin Suicides too.

  25. I always thought that the movie was more about the discrepancies of the era and showing how opulent the rich lived. Your last picture is definitively evocative of the aftermath.

By the way, I tagged you here if you want to do it http://lepetitbruit.blogspot.com/2011/12/getting-tagged.html

  42. Such a pretty film aesthetically, but such a mess in terms of story - all the mumbling was insufferable (although in general I'm not a huge Sofia Coppola fan). Gorgeous images though, I love your blog!
