Personal Style Questionnaire

Tuesday, February 18, 2020

I've been thinking about personal style a lot these days, what it says about us and how it evolves over the years. So when I saw Swedish writer Sandra share this personal style questionnaire a while ago, I thought it would be fun to fill out as well! Read on to hear more about my wardrobe staples, what I wear in my down time, and more.

I used Google Translate to translate the questions, and edited it myself to sound more natural. If any of the questions don't quite line up with the original ones in Swedish, thats why! I did my best with my limited resources :')

What are clothes to you?
A way to communicate who you are and what you love, non-verbally.

What is your I-don't-know-what-to-wear outfit?
These days, I really like throwing on a smock dress - so I don't have to worry about matching separates - over knee socks, and a beret. A classic formula for when I don't feel like debating with myself over what I want to wear for twenty minutes!

What are you sleeping in?
Sadly, my sleep uniform isn't very cute! Usually it's just a t-shirt and sweats, but I do have a pair of "fancy" (to me!) PJs for when I want to feel fancy.

What is your favorite store?
As far as brands go, some of my all time favorites garments are from Samantha Pleet, Lazy Oaf, ASOS, and Valfre. But you can never go wrong with thrifting! I also have a lot of pieces from For Love & Lemons on my wishlist...

What do you prefer when you dress up?
My go to "dressed up" look revolves around an elevated dress - think special fabrics, fancy details like pearls and bows, sheer panels, etc. Paired with amped up accessories and shoes with a (slight) heel!

What are your best life hacks when it comes to clothes?
Doing a simple DIY project can completely transform a garment that is no longer speaking to you! And there are so many options for how to alter clothing - whether it's with fabric paint (like my lipstick blouse DIY), a little sewing, or embroidery. It's such a great way to make a garment wholly your own as well.

What do you feel best in?
I love a fit and flare silhouette, usually in the form of a dress or high waisted skirt that nips in the waist. Topped with my signature accessory, a beret!

How do you sort your wardrobe?
That's the problem, it's not sorted at all! I plan on doing a huge overhaul with Spring and will get back to you...

Which garments do you find difficult to find?
When it comes to online shopping, I'm pretty lucky with finding what I want, but IRL it's another story! High waisted garments that truly fit well is extremely difficult, especially pants.

What do you avoid in clothing?
Fluorescent brights or muddy colors. I like to keep fluorescents limited to accessories so it doesn't overwhelm either the eye or the look. I love deep jewel tones or frothy pastels, so muddy colors in clothing just miss the mark for me.

What do you wear when you're just at home?
If I'm not going out, I usually stay in leggings and a t-shirt or hoodie depending on how cold it is.

How do you dress seasonally?
If you know me, you know I'm really not the best when it comes to dressing seasonally or with trends. For example, if it's November and I wanna wear a pastel pink skirt, I'm going to wear it! But maybe with some thick tights and a coat so I don't freeze haha.

What garments do you never wear?
For the longest time it was pants and jewelry, but I've actually been really leaning into both these days. Maybe skorts and overalls? I love how overalls look, but haven't been able to find a pair that fit very well.

What have you worn that people didn't like?
My style has been called too childish, too girly, too colorful... But I honestly get it, my style is definitely not for everybody! I just love wearing what I feel that day, and for that reason my personal style is a bit all over the place - most days I'm in pastels, but I do love an all black look as well! I also really love channeling different "characters" or people with each look. It's like playing dress up, and I just love it ♡

I miss when blogs were sprinkled with fun writing prompts like this, it was really fun! If any of you fill this out please let me know so I can read it.

  3. I absolutely love your style, personally. So much so you've inspired me to have more fun with my wardrobe and include more pieces I truly enjoy regardless of if other people deem it 'acceptable' or not! I think that's what drew me to your content in the first place, you didn't bend to what was trendy and chose things that you liked ♡

    1. Thank you so much for this sweet comment dear <3 Body image really is such a complex thing, and I catch myself dressing depending on that more often then I would like to admit. Sending you so much love and hoping the day you have enough confidence to wear whatever you want comes sooner then later <3

  5. Aw, I remember the days when the blogosphere was filled with these tags! <3 // I love berets on other people and wish I knew how to wear them! See this illustration: HERE--I'd love to learn how to wear a beret like A or C, but usually it ends up looking like B or E haha. // Oh gosh, I despise shopping for pants! Luckily, during my freshman year of college, I finallyy found a pair of jeans that fit me, so I subsequently bought two more, and now I pretty much live in those jeans. // I love throwing on a dress for the summer, but I can't put up with the chill of wearing them in the winter! // Though I like an easy dress, I almost never wear skirts. -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

    1. Right! Oh my gosh I miss those days so much, it's funny but I have realized I'm so nostalgic for that era. And oooh I love berets so much too! I'm laughing so much at the illustration you linked, it's so cute and charming! Berets can be kind of tricky, if they are too small they don't look good at all and can really hurt. To be sure it doesn't end up looking a bit like a mushroom (as demonstrated in photo B!), you need to make sure the inner rim of the hat isn't OUT but rather, tucked in. This video shows you how to do it and it's super helpful! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_meACYGxGRw

Very jealous you've found the perfect pair of jeans! I've glad I'm not the only one who has trouble finding good pants... <3!

  8. I love reading people's style lists, I miss that about blogs. I like that you wear colours, far too many people wear boring neutrals and dark drab shades, especially in winter. There are a few other Scandi blogs I love that you might like to read as well as Sandra's: https://flora.elle.se/. https://juliaeriksson.se/. https://muchaluchas.com/
