Happy 2017! I had planned on posting before this point, but the past two weeks really threw a lot my way - which is one of the reasons why Mermaidens is so invaluable to me. It is incredibly cathartic to synthesize everything I'm loving at that moment into photo series - and this was something that had been swirling around in my head for a while!
Last year one of my most favorite posts I did was featuring a huge moon - so I wanted to do a sequel in a way and play with a moon motif. Inspiration struck via a Christian Dior runway show circa Spring 2011 and from a dress by one of my all time favorite designers, Samantha Pleet! This exquisite little silk number reminds me of clouds, moons, and pierrot. I love the dainty collar, scallops, and of course, the two tone details!
"Secret Garden" is an apropos name for this stunning romper from Samantha Pleet (one of my all time favorite designers) - one can't help but feel transported to a secret magic world of your own wearing Pleet's designs! Made out of a richly hued navy fabric and adorned with a cut in half rose (inspired by Morticia Addams) embroidered on it and having POCKETS (!), makes this romper an incredibly eye catching and beautiful statement piece in my wardrobe.
I played with the roses theme by gluing fake rose petals on my tights in a cascading fashion to mimic falling petals from the cut in half rose on the romper.
It is absolutely freezing in Oregon at the moment - we were hit with a rather intense winter storm right after I took these! On slighter warmer days I've still managed to get away with wearing my favorite short skirts and dresses by wearing thick coats and tights - thank goodness! I'm not ready to say hello to winter clothing just yet... ♔ ✿ ❀
As you probably know by now, Samantha is one of my all time favorite designers - I'm always smitten by her clever, romantic, and inspiring pieces, and when I saw a shirt with a cats saucey face embroidered on it, I knew I had to have it! The black shade and fun silhouette makes it go with just about everything in my wardrobe - making it a purrfect stable item!
To continue the kitty theme, I paired it with a blush pink bow choker from Valfre, and my signature cat eye flick.
I hope you have an amazing Friday!
Happy 2016! Like everybody else at the beginning of the year, I have been doing a lot of re-evaluating and planning for the year ahead and feeling a bit overwhelmed, nervous, but also hopeful!
Here is an outfit that I have been wearing almost nonstop: a creamy lilac Samantha Pleet top - with a Peter Pan collar, silver moon on the pocket, and finished with a scalloped hem! I paired it with a tennis skirt, white tights, and my beloved pair of glittery silver boots I got in... I think it was 2012? Ahhh!
In this get up, I couldn't help but feel like a girl scout in training to be an astronaut - and wanted the pictures to reflect that! In my mind I conjured up an image of me "sitting on the moon", but no idea how to make it happen. But after an intense brain storming session, I went to the craft store, and, after several hours making a huge mess and leaving a trail of silver scraps and silver confetti everywhere (... heh?) my moon was created! I named him Marcello.
I'm really happy with how these photos turned out! I always have really grand ideas but never am able to quite achieve what I want - but I think this is the closest I've ever gotten to it and I'm so happy! Even if I *did* fall "out" of the moon four times trying to get these shots...
Here's to 2016!
Samantha was sweet enough to send me one of my favorite pieces from the line - the Scout Dress has a gorgeous leafy vine and oranges print. My favorite part of the dress would have to be the cut out, knotted detailing, however! It's unlike anything I have in my wardrobe, and so perfect for Spring!
